3 Signs Your Child Might Need a Learning Boost Before School Starts

Back-to-School Blog Series – Post #2
Date: July 23, 2025

The final stretch of summer can sneak up on even the most organized families. Suddenly the notebooks and lunchboxes are back on store shelves, and there is a quiet question lingering in every parent’s mind:
“Are we ready?”

If your child struggled last year, got bored or overwhelmed, or is showing signs of resistance when you bring up school, those are not just growing pains. They might be signs that your scholar could benefit from a little extra support before the first bell rings.

1. They Are Avoiding School Talk (or Anything That Sounds Like It)

If you mention back-to-school shopping and your child suddenly disappears into another room, you are not alone. But consistent avoidance can be a signal of deeper academic anxiety. Maybe they had a hard time last year, or they are worried about falling behind. Avoidance often masks worry. A little one-on-one support can go a long way in rebuilding confidence.

2. They Say Things Like, “I’m Not Good at Reading or Math”

Self-talk matters. If your child labels themselves as “not a math person” or says they are “bad at reading,” that belief can shape how they approach challenges. A targeted tutoring session can quickly help reverse that mindset. Early wins remind them that progress is possible and that learning can feel exciting again.

3. Their Report Card Left You With More Questions Than Answers

If last year’s grades did not reflect their true potential or came with comments that raised concern, do not wait until the first progress report to intervene. Summer is the perfect time to catch up and get ahead. It is easier to focus before the school year’s pace picks up.

Their Words, Not Ours

“We have seen a big improvement not just in her academics but also in her confidence. Highly recommend him to any parent looking for a supportive and effective tutor.”

From One Parent to Another

If your child shows even one of these signs, you are not behind. You are ahead. Recognizing the need for support is one of the best things you can do as a parent. And it does not have to mean hours of tutoring or major changes. Sometimes, one focused session can be the jumpstart your child needs.
